"Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune." -Jim Rohn
Having that piece of paper with fancy lettering is not going to make you rich or prosperous. In the community I grew up in, there is a belief that college is the end-all-to-be-all. That's far from the truth.
Origins of ‘Formal’ Education. (Courtesy of Rebecca Voyda)
Colleges and universities originally date back to the days of the European Renaissance. They flourished after civilization emerged from the Dark Ages where suppression of learning, sciences, and art were all too commonplace, and the church’s draconian stranglehold on knowledge, was phased into the past. Originally, these were not ‘schools’ at all. Schools as we think of them today did not exist, and education was always independent. You got it where you could find it or afford it, from private tutors that your parents paid for, the master you apprenticed under, and anyone else who knew something of value that you could get for a trade of something that they valued, be it gold or the knowing that you would carry on their work and legacy after they were dead and gone, and would be obligated to work for them for a number of years after your apprenticeship was finished to ‘pay’ for your ‘tuition’.
The original colleges and universities were in all actuality houses of masterminding, a place where scholars and learned men could get together and learn from each other in lecture halls, meetings, and demonstrations. They could collect the works of others into a library, put down their own work into that library as well, and have a place – a standing, hard-copy database if you will, being in the absence of the internet – for whatever knowledge they found, discovered for themselves, and wanted to pass on to those who would follow them in years to come. There were no degrees, or tests, or standards of certification. All were equal in the forums and houses of learning, be they a prince or pauper. Real life was the test, and a piece of paper was only a piece of paper no matter whose signature was on it, your credentials were your competence in the field, and the respect you had earned from your fellow man, not simply a piece of paper that was signed by someone who was supposedly an ‘expert’, that oft times has little successful real world application of what they are teaching. After all, how many financial advisors and professors of economics are actually wealthy themselves? And if they are not wealthy, do they really have any business teaching ANYONE how to do something that they themselves have not accomplished?
Enter the Modern Era (Courtesy of Rebecca Voyda)
What do we have now? Where have these houses of masterminding gone? Sometime in the 20th century, we began to think – with the rise of the new government-run and mandated “education system” – that an education meant school, not knowledge. Moreover, people now believe that knowledge has to be specialized; you have to have a degree in a subject, or you don’t really have any business saying anything about it at all. That you cannot possibly know what you are talking about in regards to a subject unless you have a degree in it, regardless of how you have used that subject, or mastered it’s application in the real world that is outside the cloistered walls of the university.
Nowadays, degrees don’t mean near what they used to. They only mean that you got a fair amount of correct answers on a standardized multiple-choice ‘test’, that you completed the required class work, (whether you actually learned anything from the work or not seems irrelevant to the instructors), and that after all your years of perseverance and practice of rote memorization and regurgitation of subjects that you neither learned nor benefited much from, you finally got a little piece of paper with the signature of someone who is supposedly important on it. Forgive me for being so direct, but what did you actually learn in those years of thinking inside someone else’s standard-sized box in order to get that all-important piece of paper? What does this mean for you once you graduate from college? Is it helping you make yourself financially independent?
Now before anyone thinks I'm knocking education with this blog, I happen to have a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. I benefitted from my bachelor's in some of the industries I was employed in, but in all the positions I held, my degree was only one of several requirements for me to get hired for these positions! If I didn't meet the others (i.e. REAL qualifications and experience), then I would not have held these positions.
Which brings me up to my point in this blog: a college education will NOT make you rich or prosperous. I hear kids when they graduate from college they say something to the effect, "Now I'm ready to make some serious money." If you've been interning and networking before you graduate hopefully you'll land that dream position and make a decent salary enough to live on. But one thing is certain: you don't get rich working for someone else which college pretty much prepares you to do.
The main purpose of college is to LEARN, period! There's nothing wrong with that as you are filling your mind with knowledge. But people seem to think they will "make all kinds of good money" once they graduate. What they fail to realize is the "education of life" is just as important as what they learned in a classroom. If you don't learn that lesson, you don't move forward in this world, guaranteed (and it don't matter what you have or don't have). As the late martial artist Bruce Lee said, "Knowledge is FIXED IN TIME, whereas KNOWING IS CONTINUAL." If you think your learning stops when you get that Bachelor's or higher degree, think again!
There's more to be said for the people who went beyond learning in the classroom, no matter what college level degree they have.
For the folks who want to get that career after college, they will have to earn their qualifications for whatever it is they're pursuing, or if they want to "make money" or "get rich" they will educate themselves on how to do so. They will read books, talk to people and go online and see what their resources are. They learn that the knowledge they gain is hardly taught in college or universities.
Again, I'm not knocking college because it is a place of LEARNING and no one's capacity to learn ends unless they make it. (Heck, I plan on mastering in Aeronautical Science, not because it will make me some good money, but because Aviation is my hobby.) But if you want to survive past the last day you turn in that term paper or write/fill-in your last answer on your very last final exam, you need to go beyond the classroom.
For those who pursue a traditional career, you need to earn your qualifications

Managing Your Dough
"Simply having cash in your bank account does not make you wealthy."
-CarbonCopyPro BiB Professional Marketing Manual ONE
When I read that heading from CCP's marketing manual I thought about actor Will Smith. Before Will Smith hit it big on television and motion picture, he was known as the rapper, The Fresh Prince.
The Fresh Prince made his debut while in his teens. He started making millions and spent a lot of it on a house, cars and jewelry nearly backrupting him in his early twenties. Reading the CCP heading made me remember Will Smith talking about his spending in a TV Guide article, "I went to Europe and did a lot of shopping. Even if it [item] was ugly I bought it anyway because it was expensive and I was rich!"
Some folks in life when they acquire money through the lottery or through a great paying career they DON'T know how to manage it! All of a sudden they have all this dough than they know what to do with so they find ways to spend it! Then all of a sudden it starts to bite them in the behind.
Another thing that the CCP manual says "Ever notice that 90% of all lottery winners are broke within 5 years?" That's because they don't know how to responsibly manage that dough.
I have confidence in this new internet marketing career that I just joined. I am convinced it's not a "get rich quick" gig. Not only will it inspire you to be PASSIONATE about online marketing, but they will teach you how to maintain that dough so you don't end up as a "Millionaire for a day" or for just a short period .

Passion equals results
"Do you think Tiger Woods thinks about how much money he will make when he goes to hit the golf ball? NO! He is incredibly passionate about golf. The money he makes is a BY-PRODUCT of his passion and focus." -Jay Kubassek
In whatever pursuit you do in life, if you are passionate about what you do, you will net in favorable results.
I joined the Marines after high school. In 1997, with seven years service, I was selected to be Marine of the Year for my unit. Shortly after that selection, I was promoted to the next highest rank. I didn't join the Marines to win medals or be selected for awards like Marine of the Year, I joined because it was my dream to become a Marine. I was passionate about being a Marine and being selected for Marine of the Year and the subsequent promotion were by-products of my dedication to the Marine Corps.
The internet marketing company I just joined encourages you to concentrate more on the marketing aspects of what you are promoting than trying to "get rich quick." Yes, it's nice to have all that dough and you can "get rich quick" in this internet marketing program through deligence. But one of the things I learned when I was a Marine was to take things one step at a time. During those steps you need to refine each of them and work diligently to net results. This internet marketing company follows a similar philosophy.
You see all these MLMs and infomercials with the "Opportunity to make millions from the comfort of your home and PC." To be fair with them, you can probably make those big bucks with those companies. But the problem is, they're pushing the BIG BUCKS more, than actually trying to teach you how you can do it. They're pushing the benefits before actual work is done, in other words they're putting the carriage before the horse. So in effect, people who give these other opportunities a shot will focus more on the benefits than the actual work that needs to be done.
Before you can make the big bucks, you have to like what you are doing first. And when that's established, you become passionate about what you are doing. Then you start netting results.
That's why a lot of advertisements for the net marketing program I joined say something along the lines of you have the POTENTIAL to earn a six figure income within half a year. They don't say YOU WILL first or use the big bucks as an incentive to sign up this company.
They say, POTENTIAL because they know not all who give this a shot will earn those bucks. In other words it's NOT for everybody.

Extra Income Opportunities
Let's face it, whether we love our "day" jobs/careers or not, we will not get rich quick. Sometimes we either hit it hardbottom or we live paycheck-to-paycheck with hardly anything left for enjoyment. So some of us "moonlight" in addition to our "dayjob" in effect taking more time away for ourselves than we need to. We help make others get rich whether through one or two jobs.
Back in late July, I found an online marketing opportunity. In it is the potential to earn six figures in half a year through deligence and dedication.
Another "get rich quick" scheme? Scam? If it is, it's the first "scam" or "scheme" that has ADVISED YOU TO WORK DILIGENTLY TO ACHIEVE THE RESULTS IT PUBLISHES.
Since being affiliated with this site I learned that there are five keys to finding the top online business opportunities:
1) the Marketing System
2) the Compensation Plan
3) the Training
4) the Community
5) the Products
What other online opportunities teach these?
